To provide one of the first prospective reports examining neuropsychological outcomes for children treated with 1800 cGy whole brain radiotherapy (WBRT) and prophylactic chemotherapy versus prophylactic chemotherapy alone for acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL). Acute and long-term neuropsychological toxicities associated with WBRT are compared.

To investigate family functioning in families with an adolescent survivor of a pediatric brain tumor. We explored whether adolescent, parent, disease and treatment factors, and demographic characteristics predicted family functioning.
Methods: In this cross-sectional study, 45 adolescent survivors of pediatric brain tumors and their parents completed self-report questionnaires on family functioning, and emotional and behavioral problems. Parents completed questionnaires on their own mental health and the burden of treatment.

In het kader van een project gesponsord door de Stichting tegen Kanker en in samenwerking met de vereniging zonder winstoogmerk (vzw) Mindfulness werden gedurende twee jaar mindfulnessoefeningen aangeboden op de afdelingen kinderoncologie van de Universitaire Ziekenhuizen (UZ) Gent, Leuven en Brussel. De kinderen en jongeren deden de oefeningen individueel op de kamer. Familieleden konden deelnemen aan oefeningen in groepsverband. Hulpverleners kregen een acht weken durende training aangeboden.
