Artikel: The mediating effect of self-efficacy in the relationship between social support and post-traumatic stress disorder symptoms among patients with central system tumors in China: a cross-sectional study

Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) is a disorder that can affect people following the experience of a traumatic event. Few studies have researched on PTSD symptoms of patients with central nervous system tumors. In this study, we aim to examine the association between social support and PTSD symptoms and to explore the mediating effect of self-efficacy in this relationship among patients with central nervous system tumors in China.

Artikel: Interventions that may reduce depressive symptoms among prostate cancer patients: a systematic review and meta-analysis

Prostate cancer patients are at increased risk of depression yet there is no standard intervention to address this. The purpose of this meta-analysis is to examine the efficacy of interventions in reducing depressive symptoms in men with prostate cancer.

Methods

Searches for studies were conducted in four databases and by hand. Randomized controlled trials of any intervention relative to control for depression in prostate cancer patients at any stage of their cancer treatment were included.

Borstkanker Re-integratie vanUit Gezondheidszorg (BRUG): Ontwikkeling en evaluatie van een RTW-interventie.

Evoluties in aantal diagnoses, toegenomen overlevingsduur en dalende leeftijd van borstkankerpatiënten zorgen voor groeiende nood aan ondersteuning bij behoud en hervatten van werk. Werk is belangrijk voor de levenskwaliteit van borstkankerpatiënten. Vooral kort na diagnose blijven tot op heden concrete vragen daarover onbeantwoord waardoor 40% van deze patiënten niet hervat. Onderzoek toont aan dat hoe vroeger RTW-trajecten starten, hoe groter de slaagkansen zijn, met communicatie tussen de verschillende stakeholders als essentiële voorwaarde

Methode

Coaching patients and family by telephone

Research has demonstrated that oncological patients and their family can suffer from distress during and after cancer treatment. Psychosocial professionals already provide assistance within the hospital setting. However, specialized help is hardly provided in the post treatment setting and contacting a psychologist can be daunting. Continuously trying to improve the accessibility of psychological care, the Belgian Foundation against Cancer, therefore, developed a coaching service by telephone for patients and first-degree relatives in the post-treatment setting.

Impact and feasibility of a mindfulness-based intervention for adolescents and young adults after cancer treatment

Research and expert opinions suggest that adolescents and young adults experience more complex, more severe, and longer-lasting distress than children or adults with cancer diagnoses. This distress tends to be worse after cancer treatment completion. This study assesses the effectiveness and feasibility of a mindfulness-based intervention (MBI) in decreasing symptoms of stress, anxiety and depression, the impact on quality of life and cognitive vulnerability processes and on the development of mindfulness skills.

Artikel 'The effect of expressive writing intervention on psychological and physical health outcomes in cancer patients - a systematic review and meta-analysis' (2015)

Objective: This study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of expressive writing intervention (EWI) for improving psychological and physical health in cancer patients and survivors.

Methods: We searched databases and existing reviews for randomized controlled studies published between 1986 and 2014 that evaluated the effects of EWI on psychological and physical health outcomes. We computed and combined effect sizes and examined the role of methodological characteristics.
