Abstract: Patients with advanced cancer frequently experience significant symptom burden and psychosocial distress. Palliative care has evolved as a discipline that addresses many of these concerns. Yet, palliative care referrals remain delayed as patients continue to focus on cancer treatments. Using a car analogy, we propose that the two seemingly opposing goals of care—receipt of cancer therapies and symptom management—can be addressed concurrently under an integratedcare model.
Abstract: In Part I of this paper, we described a model that was used as a framework for reviewing studies of psychoeducational interventions intended to influence illnessand treatment-related behaviors and attitudes in pediatric cancer patients. In Part II, we distinguish between interventions that attempt to influence patients’ behaviors just by providing information and interventions that specifically teach skills related to the behaviors they are trying to change.
Het doel van onze studie was om na te gaan hoe de oudere kankerpatiënt het slechtnieuwsgesprek op emotioneel gebied beleeft en anderzijds welke situationele factoren een invloed kunnen hebben op hun ervaring.
Het onderzoek liep over een periode van 10 maanden waarin 30 palliatieve kankerpatiënten een zelf samengestelde vragenlijst (18 items) aangeboden kregen tijdens opname in het ziekenhuis. De gemiddelde leeftijd was 78.7 jaar (SD = 7.23) en 58% van de patiënten waren mannen.

Abstract: Newly diagnosed patients with cancer require education about the disease, the available treat- ments and potential consequences of treatment. Greater understanding of cancer risk has been found to be associated with greater health-related quality of life, improved psychological adjustment and greater health-related behaviours. The aim of this sytematic review was to assess the effectiveness of educational interventions in improving subjective cancer risk perception and to appraise the quality of the studies.
