The value of talking (i.e. disclosing ones innermost thoughts and feelings) has been recognised as playing an important role in helping people work through their difficulties. Although disclosing a diagnosis of cancer has been identified to be one of the hardest aspects of having the disease, relatively little is known about the extent to which people talk about their diagnosis of cancer. This study aimed to identify disclosure patterns among patients with cancer and to determine the factors associated with disclosure.
In het bijvoegde artikel worden de resultaten van semi-gestructureerde interviews bij tien patiënten met een peniscarcinoom en een deel van de partners, afgenomen meer dan twee jaar na de behandeling, beschreven.
Beschreven wordt een 52-jarige man, die op de afdeling urologie wordt opgenomen met een carcinoom aan de penis en waarbij zowel de penis als het scrotum worden verwijderd. Er wordt beschreven hoe het echtpaar seksuologische hulp zocht en wat dit hen opleverde.
The purposes of the present study were to investigate the role of resilience in the prediction of emotional response in breast cancer patients and to examine whether this association is specific for women undergoing this emotionally taxing condition or whether resilience is more generally associated with higher levels of emotional well-being.

The years following prostate cancer treatment are characterized by changes in sexual functioning and risk for depressive symptoms. Sexual self-schema (SSS) is a cognitive generalization about sexual aspects of the self that are associated with sexual behavior, affect, and the processing of sexually relevant information. This study tested if men's SSS moderates the impact of sexual morbidity on depressive symptoms.
