Psychosocial interventions addressing the needs of Black women diagnosed with breast cancer: a review of the current landscape

Poorer health outcomes and lower survival rates have been well documented among African American/Black (Black) women diagnosed with breast cancer. Black women are 41% more likely to die from breast cancer than White women despite a lower incidence rate. Apart from pharmacotherapy, psychosocial interventions are recommended by the Institute of Medicine as standard medical care for breast cancer patients at all phases of treatment.

Ook voor hun partners is dit een ingrijpend gebeuren.

The purposes of the present study were to investigate the role of resilience in the prediction of emotional response in breast cancer patients and to examine whether this association is specific for women undergoing this emotionally taxing condition or whether resilience is more generally associated with higher levels of emotional well-being.

Unfortunately, the treatment for this cancer can have a number of negative side effects, both for the man himself and his partner. This study investigated the support needs of both men and partners throughout the prostate cancer journey and how this journey may be optimally managed.

Although regular physical activity is associated with lower all-cause and disease-specific mortality among breast cancer survivors (BCS), most BCS do not meet its recommended guidelines. Attention function, a domain of cognition, is essential for daily tasks such as exercising, a form of planned physical activity.

De standaard: Chemo kan straks ook in de woonkamer

Minister van Volksgezondheid Maggie De Block (Open VLD) gaat nog dit jaar proefprojecten opstarten om patiënten die chemotherapie krijgen, in de eigen woonkamer te behandelen.
