Referral to specialized palliative care services (SPCS) occurs often late in the illness trajectory

but may differ across cancer types. We examined differences between cancer types in

the use and timing of referral to specialized palliative care services (SPCS) and in the reasons

for non-referral.

Methods

We conducted a population-based mortality follow-back survey among physicians who certified

a representative sample of deaths in Flanders, Belgium. We focused only on sampled

Individuals with advanced cancer experience substantial distress in response to disease burden and

impending mortality. Managing Cancer And Living Meaningfully (CALM) is a novel, brief, manualized

psychotherapeutic intervention intended to treat and prevent depression and end-of-life distress in

patients with advanced cancer. We conducted a randomized controlled trial to compare CALM with

usual care (UC) in this population.

Dat stuit bij mensen met een migratieachtergrond op onbegrip en vergroot het wantrouwen tegenover Nederlandse zorgverleners. Er is nog veel onbekend over palliatieve zorg onder migranten. Goede palliatieve zorg voor migranten vraagt kennis en communicatievaardigheden van de betrokken artsen en zorgverleners enerzijds. En meer zelfmanagement van migranten anderzijds.

Zorgverleners in de thuiszorg komen steeds meer in contact met cliënten met kanker. Deze cliënten kregen vaak slecht nieuws te horen bij hun diagnose, tijdens de behandeling of daarna. Hoe reageer je hierop? Hoe ga je om met hun emoties? Hoe hou je rekening met de naasten?

Objective: Malignant glioma (MG) is a devastating neuro‐oncologic disease with almost invariably poor prognosis, yet many families facing malignant glioma have poor prognostic awareness (PA), or the awareness of the patient's incurable disease and shortened life expectancy. Accurate PA is associated with favorable medical outcomes at end‐of‐life for patients and psychosocial outcomes for informal caregivers (ICs) through bereavement. To date, however, no study has specifically examined PA among MG ICs and the information they receive that shapes their awareness.
